Sherlock Holmes with PreLower

In exam classes it is often difficult to deviate from intensive preparation, but a bit of literature is a great boost for students' motivation. Using an excerpt from "The Hound of the Baskervilles, students focused on different part of the text in small groups. Then, they assembled their information on the class poster and filled out their individual study guide. At the end of the project, they had to write a letter to a newspaper editor or their school principal nominating this as a short story students should read. By the end of the projectthe students had learned a lot of words relating to sound and movement and the grammatical phenomeonon of Inversion, all which are parts of the exam prep syllabus. More importantly, they were able to do this by themselves, without explicit instruction, and in context, thus gaining a deeper understanding.
